Cleaning Grout Haze

Have you ever seen a ring on pool tile? These are residual minerals left after water has dried. It's much the same way with grout. Grout is made of minerals and cement mixed with water. When the water dries, minerals remains.

What Is Grout Haze:

It's a semi-white haze left on the surface of tile after grouting. Even if you have diligently wiped down the surface with a wet sponge, haze will remain and will not come off until you take special measures; it will not come off through normal floor cleaning methods.

Residual grout haze is a normal part of tiling. Because grouting involves smearing grout across the tile with a rubber float, the tile is covered with grout at some point during tiling.

We are Australia's leading grout care specialist. We are your specialist service for tile & grout cleaning, tile & grout sealing, stripping & sealing, tile regrouting, grout color sealing, and minor grout repairs. If you need advice on cleaning & sealing your old or brand new floors, or need a professional to do it for you, then you have come to the right place.

remove grout haze from ceramic tile

The grout lines in bathrooms can be a tricky and annoying conundrum. The majority of the bathroom is made out of the tiles and not the grout. The grout simply seals the bathroom tiles together yet it seems to be that it is the place that gets the filthiest of all in the bathroom. The bathroom tile grout seems to get filthy in a sneaky way as well. It will seem to be clean for weeks on end and then suddenly one day it bursts into green, black and brown streaks notifying us that it must be cleaned in order to avoid a grimy attack of mold.

How to Remove Grout Haze from a New Tile Floor

Installing a tile project in your home can be a great. Unfortunately one of the most common problems encountered when a tile project is finished is lingering grout haze. In an ideal world grout haze would be removed at the end of the grouting process, but most tile installers have a hard time getting this process right. The issue is that most people are concerned about cleaning the tile too much for fear that they will remove some of the grout between tiles. The ideal time to try to clean up grout haze is about twenty-four hours after the grout has set. It is a skill best learned though trial and error, if you already have grout haze then call 0423 011 301 and one of our experienced technicians will help you with your grout haze cleaning needs.

Once all the grout haze has been removed off your tiles, we always recommend following up an application of grout sealer to seal and finish the grout lines between your tiles. Doing this last step will help you keep the grout lines clean and protected. Call 0423 011 301 and one of our experienced technicians can help you seal and protect your grout lines.

Why Clean Grout?

The secret to great looking tiles is great looking grout. Grouts are porous and, as a result, they easily absorb grease, dirt and lime scale. Spillages such as wine, lemonades or any greasy substances could cause marks and patches in the joints in the floor. Grout between wall-tiles, particularly in damp areas like bathrooms, could and will become dirty and unattractive as a result of Mould, Mildew and Limescale.

Mould is one of the most unsightly problems, it usually starts off in the wettest area of the room, like the bottom of the shower or bath, and if left unchecked it could spread to cover a large area of the wall.

In bath or shower areas, continued use of acid formulated shampoos and soaps will cause discolouration of grout joints, causing yellow orange and pink stains to appear on the grout over time, so you should protect your grout using a sealer which forms an invisible barrier between the grout and the surface, protecting your investment for years to come.

After we clean & sanitize the tiles & grout and allow it to dry, we seal the grout with our impregnating grout sealers. The grout absorbs the color sealer into its pores, creating a barrier against future staining. (Grout Sealing Creates a Sanitary Finish, Easy to Maintain and Stains Simply Wipe Off). Grout Sealing preserves the natural beauty of the grout lines for years to come.

If not sealed, grout can become stained with years of dirt and general cleaning products and can be impossible to clean to a decent standard. This is most common in bathrooms & kitchens.

The Benefits of Grout Sealing

  • Protects the grout from getting stained and discolored quickly
  • Professional and natural finish
  • Ease of maintenance & no more scrubbing
  • Expected ware of up to 10 years
  • Perfect for kitchens, bathroom, showers, laundries and more
  • Most jobs may be completed in a day

  • Fraction of the cost of haveing to replace tiles or re-grout in the future, saving you money!
